Industry’s Profit Pool Map

Continuing Education Course 11

FACULTY: ROTHBERG 0.7 CEU CREDIT

February 22, 2008

This course will show you how to discover new opportunities for your company, an essential goal for any CI manager. “Industry’s Profit Pool” is a new concept in opportunity identification. By using an industry profit pool map, the CI analyst can determine where value can be captured or created, where his company sits in the pool, and what strategic alternatives exist to swim in more or better pools than the current one. Such a profit pool map can then be employed to inform strategic thinking.

This hands-on, case-based seminar will teach you how to:

  • Determine the distribution of profits across value chain activities
  • Estimate the current size of industry value chain profit pools
  • Create an industry profit pool map to fit strategic questions
  • Identify the ‘Choke Points’ in the industry’s profit pools
  • Identify blind spots in the firm’s strategic vision that keep it from swimming in new pools
